Jens Günther

Jens Günther paints high-quality realistic pictures for which he does extensive research. There is always a photograph or photo series template for the painting. The oil paint forces him to work carefully, which he has come to appreciate over time as an advantage.

The zoo and the associated animal husbandry are the focus of his zoo series. Jens Günther takes on this challenge artistically. The focus is on communication between zoo animals and zoo visitors. How do visitors behave towards the animals? How do the animals react to them? In order to clarify these questions, the artist decided to carry out his positions in black and white. Thus, the animals are deprived by the colorlessness of their exotic color, which is an important criterion of their natural fascination.

Jens Günther completed his painting studies at Burg Giebichenstein in Halle in 2008. He then completed postgraduate studies with Prof. Ute Pleuger. Since 2013 he has been teaching at the department of painting technique at Burg Giebichenstein.
